try to use serial console, so you can connect it from another 
pc and save any console output automaticaly (I use minicom
to connect to the serial port) .

anyway I did have crash problem with some 2.6.* kernel versions,
my problem was XFS doesn't like 4K stacks, so I set it back to 8K
in kernel config. 
but I think you have another problem.
