Jeremy,

Probably not too valid.  Yes, it's a problem, but assuming you drop in
high-speed RAM, and a chip with a high speed cache, with a reasonably high
clock speed, I would expect that you're going to run into PCI bus
limitations long before you swamp the CPU (especially if you want to use
the DR method).  Your average PC PCI bus is 32 bit, so that means that it
can only handle a maximum of 132MBit/s of data. There are 64 bit buses
available.  I don't know as to the availability and/or usability of 64 bit
NIC's under linux, though.
