Whenever I get terrible performance it's been 

1. I had forwarding off in a box that is supposed to have forwarding on
(forwarding off is the default in linux)

2. I had the routing wrong.

If that doesn't suggest anything off the top, diassemble your LVS and
connect directly to the real-servers from the client, and add pieces
back in till the performance drops
