That's exactly _why_ we need this list: to keep the volume low.

Having a dedicated mailing list for announce purposes allow you to add
changes, releases and urgency informations or any other important
information in the body of the mail: I don't know if FreshMeat allows
it. Every other serious projects have an announce ML.
