the symptom is that you can't ping your nameserver by IP after the
box has been up for a while. After killing ldirectord, the problem
is not fixed. Rebooting the box fixes the problem.

What else do you have running on the box? Kill everything on the
box and start things one at a time till the symptoms reappear.
