Yes, its to have the latest kernel. External security requirement means
we have to be seen to be using the best patched kernel available.
Covering one's backside. Highly unlikely any exploit can be used as they
are hardened but ..........

Sorry about that. If they are working, I'd be tempted to leave
them the way you are, unless you want to track the vendor's
kernel updates - as I will almost certainly not be updating
the ultra monkey kernels any more.
