Thanks all.

This is really comforting. It seems like as long as I have a mid 2ghz
P4 type processor and a gig of RAM, my processing/memory needs are
good. It seems like the most attention should be paid to the type of
NICs and their setup (separate for inbound/outbound, to allow for
plenty of traffic to be exchanged, or just buying a nice add-on NIC
with more robust interrupt/processing capabilities.)

This is going to cost a -lot- less than I originally expected, and
I'll have a redundant machine included in that cost... much better
than spending more money and getting a single unit!

Feel free to continue replying with real-world scenarios and specs -
I'm still digesting all of it, but from the sounds of it, I'll be
using hardware more than plentiful for this.
