Sorry, I did't explain clearly!
In my production environment the linux RS are running RHL 7.3 with Red
Hat kernel 2.4.20-18.7smp. I assign the VIPs to aliased devices using rh
initscripts (to survive reboots!) so iproute2 tools are used.
At the moment I have no RS running on RHAS 3 but, just to see if this
network setting was fine, I set up an aliased IP on the loop device
(still using iproute2) of RHAS 3 box running Red Hat kernel 2.4.21-4.EL,
then I tried to ping the aliases IP from another server without
success. I also checked the arp cache of this server for the aliased
IP but obviously it was not there.
